A sub-inspector at a police station here was transferred following a protest against him by villagers for allegedly manhandling a local journalist, police said today.

Locals of Dhanora taluka in the district staged a road blockade against sub-inspector posted at Dhanora police station Vaibhav Mali at the Gadrchiroli- Rajnandgaon highway yesterday after Mali allegedly manhandled a local journalist Allauddin Lalani in connection with a complaint registered against him, a Dhanora police station officer said.

According to locals, they were agitated with ruthless policing of Mali, who they said, had allegedly beaten up few persons in connection with separate cases, leaving them seriously injured, they said.

Meanwhile, Gadchiroli MLA Namdeo Usendi also rushed to the spot and tried to pacify people and also spoke to Home Minister R R Patil and S P and Dhanora SDPO on the issue.

Transfer order was received by evening and Mali has been transferred to Asarali village police station in Sironcha taulka of the district, Usendi told PTI.

Mali was transferred to Sironcha village following people's agitation, Gadchiroli SP Sandeep Patil said.

Recently, local journalist had submitted a memorandum to Home minister when he had visited Gadchiroli on Mali's harsh behaviour and policing in the area.
