"The temple committee is against any politics over the Dhari Devi temple. For the completion of the Srinagar project, the temple must be elevated," Pande told a protest meeting at Srinagar town in the Garhwal region where infrastructure major GVK is building the hydel project, which is facing opposition from a section of environmentalists, religious and BJP leaders for the relocation of the temple.
The company wants to elevate the temple as it is coming under the reservoir of the project.
Pande said the temple should be elevated under a proper plan and the temple committee would not object in case the temple is dislocated for few months in order to elevate at a certain height above the reservoir level.
Avdhash Kaushal, chairperson of the RLEK, a Dehra Dun-based NGO which is spearheading a campaign to build hydel projects on the river Ganga, told the meeting that Uttarakhand needs power from the hydel projects because it is clean energy and would not stop the flow of the river.
Kaushal said he has decided to support local people who are agitating against the closure of such project on the river Ganga.
Yesterday, BJP leaders had sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention in saving the ancient shrine which is facing threat of submergence in the Srinagar Dam in Garhwal.
