All the five convicts in the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case broke down in the court on being awarded life sentence with one of them fainting.

No sooner had Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat pronounced the quantum of sentence, both in English and Hindi, the convicts were visibly stunned and lost control of themselves and started sobbing.

One of them Shahid started trembling and asked for a chair after the judge left the dais.

Within minutes, he collapsed. Water was sprinkled on his face and policemen helped him to the dispensary for medical aid.

As soon as family members of the convicts who were anxiously waiting outside to know the fate saw Shahid, propped on the shoulders of a policeman, they wailed and cursed the investigating officer of the case, media personnel and the policemen present there.

"They have killed our son. Now without him what is left in our lives, they have ruined us," Mujahid, a relative of Shahid, shouted before being pushed back by the policemen and court staffs to pacify them.
