Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Sudin Dhavalikar Friday filed a disqualification petition before the Goa Assembly Speaker against his former party colleagues Manohar Ajgaonkar and Dipak Pawaskar.
Ajgaonkar and Pawaskar left the MGP and joined the BJP on March 27, 2019. Both were inducted in the Pramod Sawant-led ministry the next day while Dhavalikar, then deputy chief minister, was dropped.
Dhavalikar petitioned acting Speaker Michael Lobo seeking the two MLAs' disqualification Friday.
Lobo told PTI that he had received the petition, filed under the anti-defection law.
Saying he was going to be outside Goa for ten days from Saturday, Lobo said he will issue notices on the petition when he returns from vacation.
The current strength of the Goa Assembly is 36: 14 MLAs each of the Congress and BJP, three MLAs of the Goa Forward Party, three independents and an MLA each of the MGP and NCP.
