Congress today appointed R K Dhawan as the convenor of the Implementation Committee for the Indira Gandhi Centenary Celebrations replacing Sheila Dikshit.

Dikshit, who is the chief ministerial candidate of the party for Uttar Pradesh polls, will, however, be looking after constituency specific Women's Day programmes in Allahabad, Lucknow and Varanasi, along with former Congress MP Priya Dutt and Imran Kidwai.

In a statement, the party said Congress President Sonia Gandhi has appointed P Chidambaram and Ajay Maken for organising lectures, seminars and symposiums while Oscar Fernandes and Kamal Nath have been assigned the task for organising rallies and activities related to frontal organisations.

Randeep Surjewala, head of the Communication Department, and senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar will look into the publicity and outreach coordination with the Congress-ruled states.

Anand Sharma, Deputy Speaker of Leader in Rajya Sabha, former Union ministers Milind Deora and Kumari Selja will take care of the exhibitions and cultural programmes.
