The anti-corruption bureau today arrested a village development officer from Mouje Virdel village in Shindkheda tehsil of Dhule district while taking a bribe of Rs 10,500.

Avinash Soma Baisane, the accused, had sought the bribe for handing over a cheque of Rs 2,68,988. The amount had been sanctioned by Dhule Zilla Parishad to the complainant towards construction cost of a lodging facility (bhakt-niwas') in the village, the ACB said in a release here.

The complainant, who is the wife of village sarpanch, had built the lodge at her own cost, and the ZP had sanctioned reimbursement under village development fund for the same after due inspection by PWD.

The cheque was sent to Baisane who asked for bribe to hand it over. ACB officials set a trap and arrested him red-handed in Virdel gram panchayat office today.
