Diamond, gold jewellery worth Rs 1.40 cr stolen

Thieves broke open a locked house at Vadakekkad in Kerala's Thrissur district and decamped with a rich haul of diamond and gold ornaments, approximately worth Rs 1.40 crore, when the family was away in the Gulf, police said today.

The theft was suspected to have taken place late last night or early this morning, they said.

Diamond ornaments, about 500 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 25,000 in cash were found missing from the locker in the house, police said.

The owner and his wife had gone to the Gulf last month.

Thrissur Rural SP N Vijaykumar, told PTI that a special investigation team which included Cyber experts had been formed to nab the culprits.
