Dibrugarh voters to take pledge for free, fair polls

Dibrugarh district administration has introduced a voter pledge-taking slip whereby the electorate promise to ensure free, fair and peaceful election upholding the country's democratic process during the upcoming Assam Assembly election on April 4.

District deputy commissioner and returning officer Mani Vannan told reporters here today that the slip would be provided to each voter to deposit in the drop boxes kept in the DC's office, in public areas, markets and shopping malls.

The slip has printed that the voter also pledges to keep the country's democracy supreme by voting neutrally in each election without the influence of religion, caste, community or language.
 

Kamrup district administration under the leadership of District Election Officer Vinod Seshan has also planned several innovative ideas to increase the voter turnout by motivating the electorate, particularly the youth and women, throughout the four Assembly constituencies of Boko, Chaigaon, Palasbari and Hajo to ensure greater participation for a stronger democracy.

As part of the plan, a number of activities have been planned for implementation at the field-level for awareness and sensitisation of electorate of this election district, an official release said.

Banners for sensitisation of electorate will be displayed in all prominent places, street plays focusing on enrolment and casting of votes will be held and 'Gaon Sabhas' arranged and bulk SMS will also be sent to voters, the release said.

Voters' slip will also be distributed to all voters before the date of poll through concerned block level officers in all constituencies besides special awareness drive organised in local colleges focusing on enrolment and casting of votes.

Apart from this, initiative has been taken for playing of theme song and DEOs appeal through Public Address System throughout the District of Kamrup.
