Dictionary of Hindi Etymology soon

The government has initiated a process of bringing out a dictionary of Hindi Etymology with about one lakh entries which include common electronic terms popular in the language such as mouse, multimedia, e-mail, printer and scanner.

Central Hindi directorate has started the work from 2014-15 on the project - 'Hindi Vyutpatti Kosh'.

Common scientific terms and new electronic terms popular in Hindi like socket, switch, mobile phone, dispensary, DVD, CD, pen drive, social media, ambulance have been included, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said in Lok Sabha.

In a written reply, she said words and their synonyms from Hindi dialects such as Bundeli, Rajasthani, Awadhi, Bhojpuri like 'harkara', 'mor', 'tor', 'bhawdi', 'khatiya' and other Indian languages have been included, she said.
