Director Paul W S Anderson did not want 'Pompeii' to be a stylish film as he wanted it to look real.

Set in the Roman city of Pompeii during the time of eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 AD, Anderson called the film a "real, historical disaster", reported Fox News.

"I didn't want it to be a movie like '300' or the 'Immortals'. They're both very stylish films, but they're not real; they operate in a kind of comic book world," Anderson said.

"'Pompeii' is a real, historical disaster, and I wanted it to look real," he added.

The 'Resident Evil' director felt 'Pompeii' would make a good 3D film but it would also require better visual effects.

"This was the kind of movie that 3D was built for. So the visual effects have to be to a much higher standard. We were in production on some of the visual effects before we even started principal photography. There was a lot of pre-planning," he added.
