Differently-able people today staged a law-violation programme in the city demanding enactment of a law by Parliament which would ensure their rights and inclusion of more categories of them.

At least 200 people courted arrest. They were released later, police sources said here.

"We want Parliament to pass a new law that had been cleared by the UPA II Cabinet and placed before the Rajya Sabha," Kanti Ganguly, one of their leaders and a former CPI-M MLA, said.

He said that the proposed new law would ensure better rights of differently-able people and also include 12 new categories.

Nearly 1,000 people staged demonstration at Esplanade area in the heart of the city and then courted arrest.

"There was a token arrest of around 200 people who were released soon after," police sources said.
