A Deputy Inspector General of Police (PTS) in Meerut has been booked on the charges of alleged molestation of a woman cop.

DIG (Police Training School) Devi Prasad had called the police woman, who teaches cyber crime at the same school, to his office and harassed her there on April 23. On the directive of the SSP, a case has been registered against him, a police spokesperson said.

The action was taken on the basis of a report submitted by Additional Director General of Police Sutapa Sanyal who was ordered to probe the matter after the woman cop had brought it to the notice of higher authorities, the spokesperson said.

Sanyal had submitted her report on Wednesday following which a case was yesterday registered against the DIG under sections 354 (assaulting woman), 503 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insult to woman) of IPC.

SSP Onkar Singh, however, said the DIG has not been arrested so far.

The DIG could not be reached on phone when contacted for comment.
