Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) V S Raja visited the Mangalore Sub-Jail in the backdrop of attack on the police personnel by a gang of under-trials.
A gang of over 40 under-trials had attacked police officials who had come to the jail to shift two of them to another jail on Sunday last. In a violent episode 10 police officials including ACP Tilakchandra were injured and property worth Rs 40,000 was lost.
Considering the fact that there is acute shortage of manpower in the jail, the DIG said that required number of staff would be provided.
He said that if the under-trials continue to behave in an unruly manner stern action would be taken against them and they would also be shifted to other prisons.
