Dikshit's Parliamentary Secretary Mukesh Sharma said the Chief Minister telephoned Bansal and urged him to deploy more special trains between Delhi and Bihar to clear the rush.

In view of next year's assembly polls in Delhi, both Congress and BJP have been trying to woo 40 lakh Poorvanchali people who constitute one third of the total electorate in the city.

Sharma said large number of people from Bihar have been held up in the city due to heavy rush in Bihar-bound trains.

"They are eager to celebrate the Chhath Puja with their near and dear ones and that is why Dikshit requested Pawan Bansal to deploy more special trains to clear the rush," he said. The Railway Minister informed Dikshit that a number of special trains have already been pressed into service.

In an effort to woo the Poorvanchali people, the BJP today renewed its demand to Delhi Government to declare November 19 as public holiday on the occasion of Chhat Puja.

Meanwhile, Health Minister A K Walia today today directed concerned agencies to make proper arrangements in all Chhath ghats along Yamuna so that devotees do not face any inconvenience.

The Minister visited a number of ghats to asses the preparations by the agencies. He told officials of Irrigation and Flood Control department, PWD and East Delhi Municipal Corporation and power discom BYPL to ensure best possible arrangements.

He directed East Delhi Municipal Corporation to ensure 24 hour sanitation arrangement at Chhath ghats.

Walia said Health department would put in place mobile dispensaries at various ghats.
