Rejecting BJP's allegation that Education Department encouraged students of government schools to resort to cheating and using unfair means to ensure high pass percentages in board exams, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today slammed the opposition for "belittling" Delhi's people.
Dikshit said the opposition has been belittling Delhi on education sector and "people of the state would not be able to digest their efforts to malign our strides in education".
Yesterday, Delhi BJP Chief Vijay Goel, quoting findings of a survey conducted by his party, had alleged a "massive fraud" in education department and claimed that often teachers are "forced" to keep on pushing students to next level due pressure from higher ups even though they are not eligible to be promoted.
Speaking at a function here in Sarojini Nagar, Dikshit said that there are certain sections who are unable to see the development which has taken place in the national capital during last 15 years.
"They (opposition) are keen to create chaos and confusion by misleading people and have been issuing statements based on half baked facts. Delhiites are well aware of the best school education system in Delhi.
"The results of class 10th CBSE exam of our government schools are touching 98 per cent. There has been substantial increase in our 12th class results," she added.
Education Minister Kiran Walia also condemned BJP's statement saying that it is "highly demeaning".
"... A political party has stooped so low as to propagate bundles of lies and carried out a baseless and malicious propaganda against Delhi government schools.
"This act is highly demeaning. It constitutes an attack on 16 lakh hardworking students and more than 50,000 teachers of government schools," she said.
