Freedom fighters Bhai Bal Mukund, Master Amir Chand and Master Awadh Behari were executed on May 8, 1915, for hurling a bomb at a procession of the then Governor-General of India Lord Hardinge in Chandni Chowk on December 23, 1912.
Paying homage to the martyrs at their memorial in Maulana Azad Medical College here, which earlier used to be the Old Delhi Jail, Dikshit appealed to the people to imbibe spirit of patriotism from the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.
Amir Chand, Bal Mukund and Awadh Behari were executed at the Old Delhi Jail, while another freedom fighter Basant Kumar Biswas was hanged on May 9 at Ambala Central Jail.
In memory of these martyrs a memorial was built at the site of 'Phansi Ghar'on Maulana Azad Medical College campus.
The freedom fighters had protested entry of the Governor-General of India into the new Indian capital Delhi. Lord Hardinge was injured in the incident.
