In a meeting with top officials of DJB, Dikshit bluntly instructed the agency to supply drinking water for at least one-and-half hour to all localities covered by its piped distribution network.

The Chief Minister, who is also chairperson of the DJB, told the officials to ensure equitable distribution of water while addressing citizens' complaint promptly.

Areas across the city have been reeling under severe water crisis due to huge gap in demand and supply.

The current average demand of potable water in the city is around 1,100 mgd (million gallons per day) and currently Delhi Jal Board supplies around 800 mgd water across the city after treating raw water in its treatment plants.

The meeting, held at DJB headquarter in Jhandewalan, was attended by Chief Secretary P K Tripathi, DJB CEO Debashri Mukherjee besides all chief engineers and senior officials of the agency.

Asking DJB to put in place an efficient complaint redrassal system, Dikshit said senior officials should be deployed to address the grivances round the clock.

The Chief Minister also asked the agency to streamline the operation of the tankers and said there should be zero tolerance in case of diversion of the tankers.

DJB officials later said any violation on scheduled time frame of deployment of tankers will not be tolerated and employee responsible will be straightway dismissed.

Dikshit said DJB is morally bound to provide water through tanker if a consumer does have water. MORE
