Thespian Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU) of Lilavati Hospital here after suffering a heart attack, is stable and his condition is being closely monitored.

"Mr Dilip Kumar suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) yesterday. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital yesterday at around 9:30pm in the ICU. All treatment as per protocol was instituted. At present his condition is stable," a press release from Lilavati Hospital said this evening.

It, however, said: "In view of his advanced age and post bypass status, he needs close monitoring in the ICU."

The 90-year-old legendary actor had undergone an open heart surgery 14 years ago, his yesteryear actress wife Saira Banu said.

"He is stable, and we are praying that he recovers fully. On 13th of this month he had viral fever for one day and today he felt a little discomfort and we decided to bring him to hospital and right now he is conscious," she had told reporters late last night.

Maharashtra Minorities Development Minister Naseem Khan, who visited the hospital this morning told PTI that the actor's condition was stable.

"I met Dilip saab's wife Saira Banu, who informed me that he would be under observation for two days," the minister said.
