The arrest and strip-search of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade had its echo in Odisha with activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staging a demonstration in the state capital today.

Holding flags and banners, the demonstrators shouted slogans like 'Uncivilised US - Down Down' and burnt the effigy of US President Barack Obama.

ABVP state secretary Nirakar Sahu condemned the US acts and said they have crossed all limits in a civilised society.

"This is not the first time the US has done something of this nature," he said, recalling the strip search of important personalities like former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam and Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan earlier.

Sahu said the US was against India's honour and pride. "We must act strongly without thinking about its effect on trade and business relations with the US," the ABVP leader said.
