The Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme, launched in the neighbouring Wardha district on June 1, is being extended to others districts of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra in phases.

The scheme was introduced in Amravati district on the first of this month; Nagpur and Gondia districts will be covered from October 1.

Bhandara, Akola and Chandrapur will be brought under the scheme from November 1 and Buldana will come under the scheme from December 1, an official release said here today.

The remaining districts of the region -- Washim, Hingoli, Yavatmal and Gadchiroli -- would be covered from January 1, 2014.

Under the DBTL scheme, cash subsidy for the LPG cylinders is transferred directly into the bank accounts of the consumer, who buys the cylinder at market price.

Only those who have linked their Aadhaar numbers to both the bank account and LPG consumer number will be able to receive the cash subsidy.
