Malayalam director Major Ravi has been booked for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a woman journalist at a public event over her purported remarks on Goddess Durga during a television debate, police said today.
The case has been registered, following a complaint by news channel's anchor Sindhu Suryakumar to Thiruvananthapuram Range IG Manoj Abraham, under various sections of IPC including 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), they said.
Known for his army-based films, Ravi, while speaking at a public function, had courted controversy by allegedly saying he would spit on the face of Sindhu or on anyone who depicted goddess Durga in a poor light.
