Actress Norma McCarty, who was the wife of horror-filmmaker Ed Wood, has passed away at the age of 93.
The actress, who appeared as a stewardess in Wood's 1959 low budget disaster 'Plan 9 From Outer Space', died on June 27 at Santa Clarita Convalescent Hospital in California, her son by a previous marriage, Michael McCarty told The Hollywood Reporter.
McCarty was born December 18, 1920, in Arkansas and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. In the 1940s, she moved to Manhattan Beach, California, and was hired by Eagle Lion Studios to work the switchboard and then served as a receptionist for MGM.
She also appeared on series 'Perry Mason', 'Superman', 'That Girl' and 'The Andy Griffith Show', her son said. Survivors include her other son, John.
McCarty was married to Wood from 1955 to 56. The director made a name for himself by making a number of low-budget science fiction, sex-horror, and cowboy genre films in the 1960s and 1970s, which later came to have a cult following of their own.
The director's life was made into a film by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp playing Wood but McCarty was not mentioned in the story. Kathleen O'Hara, Wood's second wife, was a part of the story.
