The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority will carry out a detailed study of the suspected 'heat wave' phenomenon which caused concern in the coastal areas of some parts of Kerala in recent days.
KSDMA member-scientist Sekhar Lukose Kuriakose said an expert team would soon visit the place where the phenomenon was experienced and could give a scientific explanation only after that.
However, he said prima facie evidence showed that the incidents were not related to 'heat wave' condition, which caused wide destruction in Pakistan recently, or acid rain phenomenon.
"We are yet to find out an exact reason for the phenomenon. But, considering the primary indications, it is assumed that the incidents were not connected with acid rain effect or heat wave. We can give a scientific explanation only after a detailed study," Kuriakose told PTI.
He said after hot winds, plants and trees were found burnt in in many parts of northern districts of Kozhikode and Kannur.He had already sought a preliminary report on the incidents.An expert team of the Authority would soon visit the spots and carry out a detailed study, he said.
"As it is monsoon season, the chances of heat wave hitting the state is less. But place like Palakkad is more prone to such phenomenon in the state during summer season," the scientist added.
