Disaster management should not be seen in isolation: Goyal

Disaster management should not be seen in isolation as it has linkages with poverty and all development schemes of the government, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said here today.

Addressing the valedictory session of a two-day conclave of the national platform for disaster risk reduction, Goyal said poverty has a direct impact on vulnerabilities and hence everyone has to work simultaneously.

Disaster management should not be seen in isolation as it has linkages with poverty and all development schemes of the government, he said.

Goyal made an appeal to everyone to come together to fight against disasters, an official release said.
 

"If we cannot prevent disasters, we must work for reducing the impact of disaster. We need to make investments in preparedness and risk reduction," he was quoted as saying.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju emphasised on investment in research and development and building partnerships with universities and research institutions.
