Opposition AIADMK today asked the Puducherry government to disburse the cash relief of Rs 4000 decided for each of the 3.10 lakh families coming under public distribution system through anganwadi centres instead of banks as had been announced.

AIADMK Deputy legislature party leader A.Anbalagan told newsmen here a big chunk of families were not having bank accounts.

He claimed that disbursement of financial assistance during Pongal festival for members of scheduled castes (for purchase of garments) through banks turned out to be a chaotic exercise.

Disbursement of the amount through anganwadi centres would be hassle free, he said.

Anbalagan also wanted a special session of the Assembly to be convened so that legislators could place before the government their suggestions for smooth implementation of relief measures in rain ravaged areas.
