Haryana government today decided to disburse old age allowance, widow pension and pension to physically challenged persons through banks.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, after taking the decision in this regard at a meeting here, said the scheme would be implemented in a phased manner in cities and villages having bank branches, an official release here said.
However, villages which do not have bank branches, the system of disbursement of pension through sarpanches would continue, he said.

Hooda was apprised in the meeting that a pilot project was implemented in Barwala, district Panchkula to distribute the social security pension through banks and this has been successful.
On the same lines, it has been decided to replicate the same method in cities and villages having bank branches, it said.
The Chief Minister was apprised that with the disbursement of pension to the beneficiaries through banks, the dependency of beneficiaries on village sarpanches would significantly reduce, the release said.
