The opposition Left Front and Congress today demanded a discussion over the issues of suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula at Hyderabad University and JNU in the West Bengal Assembly, which the Speaker did not allowed.

Even as the budget session was on in the House, Leader of the Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said such a discussion under Rule 185 of the House was essential at this juncture.

Voicing his demand for such a discussion, the CPI(M) leader said such a discussion on Vemula's suicide and JNU issue were much more important than budget discussion.

The Congress members in the House also echoed their voice with the Leader of the Opposition.

Speaker Biman Banerjee, however, declined to accept the demand and returned to discussion over state budget (Vote on Account) during the last day of the session before the election in the state.
