The Justice P K Mohanty Commission probing the 2011 Pipili gang rape and murder case today issued notice to dismissed police inspector Amulya Kumar Champatiray asking him to depose before it on February 7 for cross examination.

Champatiray was officer in-charge of Pipili police station when the incident took place in November 2011 and had initially refused to register a case when the victim's father Babuli Behera informed him.

He was however suspended and subsequently dismissed from service in 2012.

Allowing a petition by Behera's lawyer Nishikant Mishra, the Commission felt it necessary to cross examine Champatiray. Three witnesses of Champatiray had already been cross-examined by the Commission in July last year.

Witnesses Pradyuman Subudhi and Sushant Kumar Mallick, had told the Commission that they were present inside the police station on the day when Behera came to lodge the complaint.

Meanwhile, Puri district DSP Manoranjan Samal during the day filed an affidavit before the Commission on behalf of Puri superintendent of police stating that no departmental action was taken against Champatiray for dereliction of duty.
