Dispute over worship results in kids not being sent to school

: A dispute between two villages over worshipping at a temple in hilly Vellakadi area in Yercaud has led to children of one hamlet not being allowed to go to school.

The school is in Periyarikadu hamlet and has 85 students.

Officials said villagers of Isanaikadu had complained to them that people from Periyarikadu were not allowing them to worship at the local Mariamman temple

So the villagers are not sending their children to the school.

A kangaroo court also decided that if anyone from one village talks to people from the other village, they have pay a fine of Rs five lakh .
 

Salem DRO selvaraj said the Tahsildar had been instruted to visit the area and sort out their problems.

Cief Educartional Officer Gnanagowri has deputed officers to talk to the villagers and asked them to send their children to school.
