Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today criticised the BJP for creating an uproar in the state assembly during its two-day session at Gairsain saying the "irresponsible conduct" of the opposition party had showed its "disregard" for democratic institutions.

"It was painful to see the irresponsible conduct of BJP members in the state assembly yesterday. The way they attacked the chair by throwing paper missiles at it showed their disregard for democratic institutions which is highly condemnable," Rawat said.

Opposition BJP created an uproar during a session of the state assembly convened in Gairsain for two consecutive days insisting on a debate in the House on the sting CD episode and allocation of permanent capital status to Gairsain.

Marshals and policemen in plain clothes had to be called in to control the situation in the House which was later adjourned sine die.

The Chief Minister accused the opposition members of not giving up their intransigent stand even when the House passed a resolution on maintenance of Uttarakhand's special category status, restoration of 90:10 ratio in the funding pattern for Uttarakhand in centrally sponsored schemes, a green bonus for the state and laying down of a policy for the Himalayan states.
