Opposition Congress today demanded disbanding of Goa Investment Promotion Board (GIPB), saying the projects being approved by it will attract migrants which will eventually strengthen the "vote bank" of ruling BJP.

"The kind of hotel and real estate projects the board has approved, it will attract migrants and thus will strengthen BJP's vote bank. The projects are going to grab the land in the tiny state and destroy it (state)," Congress' state unit spokesman Trajano D'Mello told reporters here.

Goa is going to polls early next year.

He said GIPB has failed to attract the "lucrative and reasonable" employment for Goans.

Chaired by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, GIPB provides a single-window clearance for various investments in the industrial sector.

D'Mello said the projects approved by GIPB is a "mere election gimmick to portray that state is attracting investment".

"The kind of industries that have been approved by the board will only attract migrants here. There is no employment opportunity for locals," he claimed.
