Distraught over unemployment, mom's sickness teen kills self

A 19-year-old youth, whose father had passed away recently, allegedly committed suicide today because he had no jobs and could not manage to arrange medicines for her mother suffering from cancer.

Shivam Mishra, who had studied only till class XII, hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Harvansh Mohal area, a police spokesperson said.

He said that Shivam's father, Durga Mishra, who used to work at a private firm, had passed away few months back.

Shivam had three sisters and an ailing mother to take care of and he started looking for jobs but to no avail.
 

Meanwhile, in the absence of medication, the mother's health kept deteriorating, the sister told the police.

According to Shivam's sisters, he was "mentally upset" because of this, the spokesperson said.

He committed suicided by hanging at around 11 am, he said.

The sisters informed their neighbours of the incident who in turn called the police.

Police sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the matter further, they said.
