District achieves target of free distribution of milch cows

Coimbatore has achieved its entire year-wise target in the free distribution of milch cows and goat/sheep scheme started by Tamil Nadu government in 2011, as part of uplifting the economic status of poor women folk in the State.

The district has distributed the targeted 11,776 animals to 2,944 beneficiaries in 2011-12, 13,444 animals to 3,361 beneficiaries in 2012-13 and 17,068 animals to 4,267 beneficiaries in 2013-14, an official release said here today.

As far as the state was concerned, a total of 16 lakh goats and sheep were distributed to four lakh beneficiarires, with four goats/sheep per beneficiary in 31 districts and 36,000 milch cows to as many as beneficiaries in 21 districts, during the period, it said.
 

In order to increase the productivity, weight gain an resistance to livestock disease to these goats and sheep, a two-day +reproductive health camp and deworming campaign+ is being organised from tomorrow across the State, which can be availed by all the beneficiaries, the release said.
