District and sessions judge Abhinandan Kumar Jain passed away at his official residence here today apparently after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, police said.

The 59-year-old judge was supposed to go to Jabalpur in the morning. When he did not open his room at around 6 AM, his servant informed the neighbours and police about it, Khandwa Superintendent of Police MS Sikarwar said.

Later, police broke open the door of the room and found him dead, he said.

District Collector M K Agrawal and the SP reached the spot soon after getting information.

Sikarwar said that it appears that the judge suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away.

The autopsy will be done after his family members, who live at Nagour in Satna district, arrive here.

The judge played a pivotal role in the disposal of cases under Lok Adalat.
