A 40-year-old villager from the predominantly tribal Jawhar taluka was arrested by the district police on Friday for on charges of brutally murdering his father-in-law and beating up the brother of the deceased, police sources said.

Police inspector Keshav Naik of the Jawhar police station told PTI that the accused Harischandra Mahadu Kadale had fallen ill since the last two weeks.

During this period, his wife never came to see or enquire about him. This led to the accused suspecting that his father-in-law and his brother-in-law had not allowed his wife to visit him, he said.

The annoyed man went to the farm with a knife where his in-laws were busy working and attacked his father-in-law's brother Madhu Mauji Dhule (51), injuring him severely, he said.

Later, he attacked his father-in-law with the knife after which he died on the spot.

The police official said that since the father-in-law had seen him attack his brother, the accused wanted to silence him and hence attacked him fatally.

The father-in-law Kisan Mauji Dhule's (65) body has been sent for postmortem, while the accused has been arrested.

He has been charged under Section 302 and Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code the police official said, adding that further investigations are by the local police are on.

The severely injured Madhu Mauji Dhule has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment, the police official said.
