INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala said today the workers of his party and its ally BSP would put pressure on the Centre to complete the SYL canal at the earliest and not allow "diversionary tactics" to work.
Chautala alleged that the Centre has "shown little respect" for the Supreme Court by not following its directions to complete the canal and tried to divert attention from the issue "by injecting extraneous issues" about the flow of water of the Ravi river.
He was addressing INLD-BSP workers in Narnaul. A few leaders and workers of the parties courted arrest to pressure the government to complete the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.
The two parties have also launched a "jail bharo" campaign in the state in support of their demand.
Chautala claimed that it was becoming clear that the Centre has "no intention" to implement the Supreme Court direction to complete the canal.
BSP leader Prakash Bharati and Dushyant Chautala, INLD's MP from Hisar, also addressed the gathering.
