In view of its field staff asking consumers for 30 to 40 year-old sanction documents regarding their sewer connection, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has directed its officials to accept water bills having 60 per cent of sewer maintenance charge levied in it.
The DJB has issued an advisory, saying that insisting consumers to provide decades-old documents tantamount to "harassment".
If a consumer produces the current water bill wherein 60 per cent of sewer maintenance charge is levied, the staff will not ask for the sanction documents for the connection, the advisory said.

The move came after it was noticed by the DJB that its field staff were insisting consumers to provide 30 to 40 year-old sanction documents despite they having regular connection and issuing challan against non-production of such documents.
"It is, therefore, decided that except in specific complaint case, if a consumer produces the current water bill wherein 60 per cent 'Sewer Maintenance Charge' is levied, in that case, the challaning officer or staff will not insist for showing the sanction documents for sewer connection nor will issue challan for non-production of such documents," the advisory stated.
