The Delhi Jal Board today said its meter readers will soon be equipped with android-based tablets for accurate bill generation and transparency in the revenue management system.

The initiative was launched by Delhi Water Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam at the 131st board meeting of the DJB where a decision was also taken to extend the rebate on late payment fee to commercial consumers on accumulated arrears as on July 31, 2016.

"The device will take meter reading by capturing the GPS (latitude - longitude). Photographs of the water meters will be taken so that no tampering of reading can be done at any end," a DJB statement said.

The board also approved the DJB budget to the tune of Rs 1,755 crore under plan head and Rs 2,874 crore under non-plan head for the year 2017-18.

"The DJB also approved the laying of feeder mains from proposed construction of 37.10ML capacity Master Balancing Reservoir at Palla to augment water supply in the command of Bawana, Holambi, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and Siraspur reservoirs," it said.

The board extended the scheme of reduced rates of sewer and water development charges of unauthorised and regularised colonies till June 30, 2017, the statement said.
