The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) today passed a budget of Rs 4133.88 crore for the 2014-15 fiscal deciding to implement several of its projects, including shifting to electronic billing through hand-held devices.
The decisions were taken by the Board at its 118th meeting which also approved those projects which are aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of DJB and improving the conditions in the city by extending water and waste-water services to many parts of the capital.
Out of the total approved annual budget, a plan budget of Rs 2062.13 crore has been earmarked and it would consist of loans and grants-in-aid from the Delhi government as well as funding from schemes such as Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) and the Yamuna Action Plan (YAP), a statement from DJB said.
"The non-plan budget of Rs 2071.75 crore will account for establishment costs such as salary, pension etc., and electricity costs and property tax," it said.
The projects approved by DJB include shifting from from manual billing to electronic billing, done through hand-held devices for which has given a nod to a proposal for acquiring 244 additional devices.
DJB has also decided to re-employ 29 retired lower and upper division clerks (LDC/UDC) as LDC on contract basis.
"They will be engaged initially for a period of 6 months in the first phase subject to attainment of the age of 62 years. This has initiated to meet the acute shortage of LDCs, as DSSB failed to provide/appoint LDCs in DJB, despite, constant persuasion and request made by DJB," the release said.
The civic body also decided to replace the 30-year-old transmissions mains from Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to Deer Park and Palam Reservoir and will be carried out in two phases.
"This will provide a long time solution to the problem of leakages, pipe bursting and other issues related to water supply in this stretch of Haiderpur WTP transmission mains. The replacement of lines will also result in improvement of water pressure in the area which will be measure and recorded with flow meters and pressure transmitters," it has said.
DJB has also decided to shift the water mains at Benito Marg and Rao Tula Marg to facilitate the construction work undertaken by the public works department there.
