"DJB plans to commission sewerage system in more than 100 unauthorized colonies by this year. 37 unauthorized colonies have already been brought under DJB's sewerage system in the current year.

"The sewerage work is in progress in 162 colonies, alongwith that, work has been awarded for laying sewerage systems in another 142 colonies. Also, it is expected that, sewer lines in 95 more unauthorized colonies shall be commissioned by March 2015," said the official.

The official said that DJB employs the latest technology to lay top-notch infrastructure and provide the best available water and wastewater services to the citizens of Delhi. It has been consistently endeavouring to ensure the abatement of pollution in the River Yamuna.

"In line with its efforts, DJB is striving hard to provide a sewerage network in unplanned areas such as unauthorized colonies, U/A-Regularized colonies, urban villages, resettlement colonies, J.J clusters and rural villages," she added.

She said that with the laying of sewer systems, DJB aims at reducing pollution in River Yamuna, and thereby, looks forward to provide residents of Delhi with favorable living conditions, better sanitation and environment.

"As part of its efforts to provide enhanced waste water facilities to the city, Delhi Jal Board has drafted an integrated and sustainable 'Sewage Master Plan (SMP) 2031'; a comprehensive, technically viable plan for the implementation of sewerage works within the NCT of Delhi, supported by a Wastewater Management Information System," she added.

According to the DJB, to ensure that the draft Sewage Master Plan 2031, be detailed and inclusive, international consultants were engaged for the purpose of assessing and mapping the condition of the existing drainage infrastructures, and giving suggestions for the creation of additional infrastructure to cater to the sewage discharge.
