The Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to seek public suggestions and objections before reviewing the ban imposed on sand mining that came into effect from June 15 last.

The sand mining ban in the coastal regulation zone is effective till August 31.

The district administration would seek public opinion on allowing traditional sand mining by authorised contractors during the rainy season, an official press release here said.

Sand mining was banned in the district to facilitate the breeding of aquatic life during the monsoon.

The decision to seek public opinion on the issue was taken at a meeting of the task force set up to enforce the ban, convened by the deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim yesterday.

Ibrahim directed the officials of departments concerned to elicit views of the public on the issue before July 20.
