A woman along with her family has alleged that the staff of the district hospital here flushed her six-month-old foetus down a toilet after she suffered miscarriage, prompting the district administration today to order a magisterial probe into the matter.

"I got a complaint yesterday in which it was alleged that the foetus of a woman was flushed down a toilet after she suffered miscarriage at the district hospital here. I have ordered a magisterial probe into the matter and sought the report within a week," District Magistrate Dhanlakshmi said.

Khushboo, who was admitted to the hospital for fever, suffered miscarriage on Tuesday night due to the hospital staff's "negligence", following which they "flushed the foetus down the toilet", according to the complaint filed by the woman's husband Shahrukh, a truck driver from Niwada village.

A woman doctor and two employees have been held responsible for the incident in the complaint.

The district hospital's Chief Medical Superintendent, B L Khushwaha, denied the charges and said that the family was making false allegations against the hospital staff.

Khushwaha claimed that the woman suffered miscarriage while she went to relieve herself in the bathroom and the foetus fell into the toilet.

"The foetus was recovered the next morning. No one from the hospital staff was involved in the incident," he added.
