Haryana government today decided not to transport cattle from municipal cattle ponds or guashalas to any other destination without written permission from the District Magistrate concerned.
Taking note of the incidents of violence which occurred in connection with transportation of cattle, the state government had decided that all further transportation would be subjected to strict regulation as per laws, specially the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955, a government spokesman said.
It has been made mandatory to obtain written permission from the District Magistrate concerned for transporting cattle from one place to another, he said.
Traders and other organisations involved in such transportation would have to first provide details of the proposed route and documents of vehicles and get them approved by the DM, the spokesman said.
Police would step up patrolling and monitor movement of cattle and take prompt action wherever needed, he said.
Trucks carrying cattle were set ablaze in Gurgaon and Rewari yesterday by agitating villagers, who claimed they were being taken for slaughter.
The trucks passing through Pataudi were hired by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to transport cattle to Mathura and were accompanied by government officials.
