The Delhi Medical Council has suspended four doctors -- two of them for one year while other two for three months -- in connection with a two-year-old medico-legal case wherein a pregnant woman had died allegedly due to medical negligence at two hospitals in 2012.
"The DMC has cancelled the licences of four doctors for a certain time period after the Medical Council of India recommended the punishment. The complainant in the case had had approached the MCI against order of DMC seeking longer period of suspension," said Dr Girish Tyagi, Registrar, DMC.
The doctors whose licences have been cancelled include Dr Vijay Kohli, medical superintendent of Satyam Hospital, Dr Gaurav Bansal of Navjeevan Hospital, Pitampura for one year, Dr Alka Goel, a visiting consultant at Satyam Hospital and Dr Renu Agarwal from Navjeevan Hospital for three months.

The Directorate of Health Services had also issued closure order to Satyam Hospital for allegedly violating the provisions under Delhi Nursing Home Registration (Amendment) Rules 2011 leading to fatal consequences of the patient being treated therein.
While Dr Bansal was found guilty of medical negligence as there is a possibility of instrumentation at the hospital, according to a DMC order.
Also, both Dr Goel and Dr Agarwal were charged with not performing their responsibilities as doctors.
The complainant's wife was later shifted to Jaipur Golden Hospital where she had died.
