DMK, AIADMK leaders spar over issue of Rajiv Gandhi's killers

DMK leader T R Baalu says the Home Ministry should concur with the state govt's decision to free the convicts

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Leaders of arch rival parties from Tamil Nadu, AIADMK and DMK, got into an argument in the Lok Sabha today over the issue of releasing seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The issue was raised on a day when the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu decided to set free within three days all the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case after the Supreme Court commuted the death penalty of three assassins.

Raising the issue, DMK leader T R Baalu said the Home Ministry should concur with the state government's decision to free the convicts.

Immediately, AIADMK leader M Thambidurai objected to Baalu raising the matter, saying the state government has already decided on releasing the convicts and there was no need to discuss it.

Meanwhile, TMC member Saugata Roy said West Bengal was discriminated against in the Interim Budget.

Noting that the Finance Minister did not give anything for the state in the budget, Roy demanded moratorium on about "Rs two lakh crore debt" that was left behind by the previous Left government.
