DMK President M Karunanidhi today raised doubts quoting legal experts whether verdict in important cases like the disproportionate assets case against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will be acceptable by reinstating the special public prosecutor on contract basis.

"Legal experts raise doubts whether the verdict on such important cases will be acceptable by reinstating the special public prosecutor on contract basis", Karunanidhi told reporters here.

The Supreme Court today quashed the decision of Congress-led Karnataka government to remove SPP G Bhawani Singh from the disproportionate assets case.

Terming the decision as "malafide", a bench of justices B S Chauhan and S A Bobde also asked the Karnataka High Court and the state government to consider extending tenure of the special trial judge as per the law.

To a question that Jayalalithaa was termed an accused and had filed a petition in the apex court seeking a particular judge to take up proceedings, Karunanidhi said "she was termed as an accused. Won't she think to get reprieve from the cases filed against her? That is why, she had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the appointment of one particular judge (to take care of the proceedings)".
