DMK councillor, 51 others booked for trespassing into quarry

A DMK union councillor and 51 others were today booked for allegedly trespassing into a quarry administered by a Congress functionary near Usilampatti in the district and trying to attack him, police said.

A case has been registered against Usilampatti DMK Union Councillor Ukkirapandi, DMK block secretary Povunraj and 50 others in this regard, police said.

Congress functionary S R Thangaraman, who is also Madurai Parliament Youth Congress' president, managed to escape.

The group entered the quarry when Thangaraman was busy with official work and chased away cattle tethered at the site. They allegedly tried to attack him when he questioned them but he managed to escape.
 

The group damaged a motorcycle at the quarry before leaving, police said.

On a complaint from Thangaraman, police registered a case under various sections of IPC, including trespass.
