"DMK participated in the BJP-led government only after formulating a CMP and quit the alliance when BJP tried to slightly move away from it," he said replying to a set of questions.

Had BJP remained firm in its commitment to CMP, DMK "could have" continued in the alliance but by not remaining firm "they showed their true colours."

"Their communal (nature) is clear now and the DMK is now working to ensure that they don't return," he said, responding to a question on why his party had supported BJP then.

He recalled that his party, which had opposed UPA's FDI move, had supported the Manmohan Singh government in Parliament only to keep "communal forces" at bay.
