Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chief Mangu Singh today met JICA Vice-President Irigaki Hidetoshi at Metro Bhawan here, where they discussed the DMRC's recent request for financial assistance among other keys issues.

JICA has helped Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with financial assistance of upto Rs 35,923 crore so far throughout constructions related to all three phases, a senior metro official said.

"In view of the extreme overcrowding in the Delhi Metro network, DMRC has recently made a request to the Government of Japan, through their Ambassador in India, for extending financial support to fund the procurement of an additional proposed 476 Metro cars (coaches) at an estimated cost of around Rs 4280 crore as part of the ongoing Phase-III project," Anuj Dayal, Executive Director of DMRC, said.

Hidetoshi appreciated the role of the DMRC in implementing the Delhi-MRTS project on schedule and within cost in the high-level meeting, Dayal added.
