To address the problem of space constraints, Delhi Metro is constructing two metro depots at Kalindi Kunj and Vinod Nagar in which major components like stabling lines, auto washing plant will be situated on elevated decks.

"Space available for upcoming metro depots at Kalindi Kunj and Vinod Nagar was limited and inadequate. Therefore, a decision was taken to construct their vital components on elevated decks for better utilisation of the space," a Delhi Metro statement said.

These metro depots will cater to the requirements of the corridors coming up as part of Phase 3 of Delhi Metro construction and the construction work for both the depots has begun.

A 1.3-km long and 30-40 m wide deck for stabling lines, where empty trains are stabled, is being constructed at Jasola Vihar near Kalindi Kunj on an elevated deck.

In the main depot area at Kalindi Kunj, the auto washing plant for the cleaning of the trains, would also be set up at on an elevated deck for effective space management.

Another elevated deck for stabling additional trains in the future is also being planned.

The depot at Vinod Nagar (for the Majlish Park-Shiv Vihar corridor), is fragmented into two due to a drain and a road in between the allotted area.

One of the sides comprises a double-deck structure to cater to 20 stabling lines out of which 11 lines would be on the deck.

Elevated deck facility was previously set up at the Sultanpur depot in Phase 2 of Delhi Metro construction due to space crunch.
